Sinsinawa mound is the home of the Dominican Sisters. This order was started by Father Mazzuchelli. They are a group of 900 sisters who are dedicated to teaching and preaching about Jesus. Sinsinawa means "home of the young Eagle".
Two young girls from Dunleith were talking to Father Mazzuchelli about starting a Dominican order for women.  Father said yes and other women came to join them. This order started in Benton Wisconsin. They called it Sinsinawa. Later Father bought land  from a Mr. George Wallace Jones. This land today is where Sinsinawa stands. At first Father built an institution for boys on this land and later it became known as St. Clares Academy for boys and girls.
Sinsinawa today is the motherhouse to all the Dominicans sisters. This is where they profess their vows and embark on their missions and then return there when they retire. They hold many retreats there for the public, they have conferences there and it houses a chapel that is full of relics.
