St. Dominic Villa by R. H. |
| In 1945 The Dominican Sisters wanted a "Haven" for the sick and wanted a hospital nearby. Father Mazzuchelli in 1839 had sold property to Bishop Loras which is called Kelly's Bluff on this property the sisters built St. Dominic Villa and it opened in 1949 with 19 sisters. This has been the Dominican Sisters primary health care facility. It has been a home for sisters recovering from surgery and illness and those sisters needing long term care found it to be their permanent home. | |
| In 1999 the sisters after doing a study on declining numbers, ages, medical expenses, and responsibilities toward their other missions found that they could not keep the Villa opened. Now it will probably be sold. The sister are being moved back to the Sinsinawa. Mother House. | |
