The East Dubuque School District P.T.O.
PTO minutes 8/23/2010

I.         Attendance:  Laurie Miller, Sarah Delaney, Kimberly Miller, Paul Beck, Michelle Till, Stacey Duster, Jennifer Montag, Stacy Oberman, Sara Feyen, Lori Olmstead, Amy Reisen, Bryan Reisen.   Meeting started at 6:05 pm with a call to order by Feyen.

II.      Unable to review minutes from May meeting as secretary was not present at this meeting and minutes were not provided.  PTO president has been trying to contact secretary to obtain minutes and determine if she is still interested in remaining an officer.

III.    Jen Montag reviewed treasurers report which was motioned to approve by Feyen and seconded by L. Miller.

IV.    Fundraising:

A.      Thumser’s 19th hole:  they will continue to have PTO night on the last Monday of the month from 5-9 with 10% of sales and 100% of mini golf going back to the PTO.  Notes will need to go home to remind families of this.

B.      Wendys:  Discussed options for themes during monthly Wendy’s nights.  Decided on having trying to have members of the high school football, basketball, and volleyball teams come for a “Warrior Night”, as well as have a Halloween theme in Oct. and a Christmas caroling night in December.  We will need workers to sign up for shifts during the 5-7 block.  Sara Feyen has a list of workers.

C.      JumpinJanes:  Laurie Miller has tried to contact the owner regarding setting up PTO nights, but has not heard back after leaving a message.

D.     Grand Harbor:  Sara Feyen continues to try to contact the people in charge of PTO nights with no success.

E.      Carlos O’Kelly’s:  Bryan Reisen worked with Carlos O’Kelly’s to secure coupon sheets for Carlos and Applebees.  Sheets are $10 with 100% of that money going to the PTO.  Coupons were sold at the open house and will also be sold at the first home football game if approved by Mr. Herbst.  Sara Feyen and Amy Reisen will work the table at the game if approved.  Laurie Miller will develop order forms to send home to students.

F.       Mr. Z’s:   Original kick-off date was 9/2, however this is picture day so Sara Feyen will contact the company regarding changing this date.  Stacey Duster will represent the PTO at the kickoff if it occurs on a day she is in the district.  End date is 9/16 with forms needing to be in by 9/23.  Delivery date is 10/13.  Laurie Miller and Stacey Oberman will be here when the truck comes.  Mrs. Till approved asking some of the older students (possibly 6th graders) to help unload the truck as they did last year.  Stacey will work 12:30-4:00 and Sara Feyen, Jen Montag, and Sarah Delaney will be there from 4:00-6:00.   Pass out time is from 2:45 to 5:30.  One of the “rewards” students can earn is duct tape to tape a staff member to the wall.  Mrs. Till will ask for staff volunteers.  Mrs. Till also discussed “penny wars” being a successful fundraising tool in her previous school.

G.     Warrior orders:  Members again discussed the possibility of selling items that are not available through other organizations such as beach towels, cozies, umbrellas, water bottles, hats, pens…  Discussed doing this in the spring and having some samples at spring conferences with order forms.  Will check to make sure there is no overlap with booster club items.  Will discuss this again in October after Mr. Z”s is finished.

V.      New/Old business:

A.       Volunteer program:  Lavonne Larkin has given Mrs. Till a schedule of lunch volunteers for this year.

B.      Book fair:  Oct. 18 is drop off, starts on the 21st, ends on the 29th, with pick up Nov 2.  Plan is for PTO members to set up before the PTO meeting Oct 18 at 5:00.

C.      Discussed giving the 4 new teacher the $50 appreciation gift that was given to staff at the end of last year.  L. Miller approved the motion, seconded by L. Olmstead.  L. Miller will contact new teachers Wallenhorst, Frank, Murphy, and Bader to let them know about the money.

D.     Discussed Kathy Stierman’s request to purchase supplies for “Jenna’s shed” for use by students at recess.  Since this was already approved last school year, it was decided that she could still be reimbursed.

VI.    Meeting adjourned by Feyen at 7:20.
