High School Band Course Description

Band is a year long course open to any student (grades 9-12) with previous instrumental music experience. Students will participate in pep band, marching band and concert band performances. A wide variety of music for winds and percussion will be studied and performed throughout the year. Students are required to attend private or semi-private lessons on a regular basis. In addition, students will have individual opportunities to participate in optional events like Solo and Ensemble Contest, IMEA and the Conference Music Festival. Attending all full band performances is a course requirement.

Guidelines

During Band, students should follow typical classroom rules.

Students will be expected to be in the room before the bell rings.

Students should have all materials, including their instrument and music ready four minutes after the bell rings.

Students should be well-behaved at all times.

Students will show respect for both the teacher and the other students.

Swearing will not be tolerated.

Food and drink will not be allowed in the Band Room.

Students should not play each other's instruments.

Students are expected to treat all Band equipment with respect.
