Welcome to 6th Grade
Mrs. Murphy
Assignment Notebook
* For the first two weeks, your parents must initial your assignment notebook each night. After this, only students who are having difficulty with late homework will have to get a parent's initial.
Water bottles
* Students may bring a water bottle to school while the weather is still warm. No flavored water, gatorade, juice, etc. will be allowed.
Birthdays
* There are 19 students in the class. If you choose to bring a birthday treat, please make sure there is one for everyone. Also, please consider bringing something healthy or a treat alternative.
Assignments
· Grade level x 10 = 60 minutes a night! This does not necessarily mean 60 minutes of homework. It means you should be doing at least 60 minutes of educational something each night! This includes things like silent reading, writing or journaling, math computer games, practicing spelling words, etc.
Late Homework
· Late homework will be given up to 50% credit only and it must be finished and turned in by the next school day. If it is not turned in the next school day, it is marked as 0 points.
· This means, if an assignment is worth 10 points and is turned in the next day, the student will receive 5 points. (Note 5/10 on an assignment is an F!)
· After 3 late assignments in the quarter, the student will serve a detention. Any late assignments after that, will also be a detention. Students late homework slips will be “marked clean” after each quarter.
Behavior
· I use a strike system in the class. After strike 3, the student will serve a detention. If there is a major behavior problem in class, the student will be removed and sent to the principal's office.
Detentions
* These are served after school from 3-3:30. A note will go home the day before the detention is served so the student and parent may arrange for transportation home.
