Tips For Helping Your Child Succeed

PARENTS:

Tips for Helping Your Child Excel in Third Grade:

1. Please clean out your child's book bag nightly.  Check for notes and unfinished work in the red homework folder.  Look at the papers sent home daily and praise your child for doing a good job and question things you or your child don't understand. If you strongly believe it is your child's responsibility to clean out the book bag without your supervision, please have a consequence when your child doesn't remove homework and/or papers from the book bag. Please make certain that finished work gets put back into the book bag immediately after it is completed. I can't grade what doesn't come back!

2. Practice, practice, practice those math facts and spelling words on a nightly basis. Just ten or fifteen minutes a night makes a tremendous difference!

3. Make your child read fifteen minutes a night. Read with your child, taking turns reading to each other. Then discuss what you've read in order to help comprehension of the material.

4. Science and Social Studies is much more difficult than it was in second grade. This will be the beginning of having to study before taking tests. Please study with your child by using the material I'll send home before each test.

5.  Please make certain your child has adequate sleep and a good breakfast to start each day.
