Butterfly Garden Field Trip

Summer is coming to a close and soon all the butterflies in the area will start their long journey South toward warmer weather. Before the butterflies set out on their way, the first graders got a chance to catch their last glimpse of these beautiful, fluttering creatures.

In Science, we finished our butterfly unit. Throughout this unit the students learned the life cycle (metamorphosis) of the butterfly, migration, body parts, habitat and observed them in their natural environment.

On Friday, October 6th both first grade classes went on a field trip to the butterfly garden at Bellevue State Park on Hwy 52. At the park the students got the chance to observe these colorful creations in their natural surroundings by walking through the beautiful butterfly garden.

We also took a walk through the parks nature center where we observe preserved life samples. This was a very exciting opportunity for all students involved.
