December 14, 2006
Dear East Dubuque Families,
Seasons Greeting! It seems nearly impossible that the first semester of the 2006-2007 school year is near completion. With the holidays quickly approaching I thought I would send out a note regarding some of the building changes that will be completed over the winter recess.
One of our top priorities in the East Dubuque School District is to provide a safe environment for all students and staff. This fall, school district administrators and community support services have reviewed safety practices and policies. We are in agreement that one more step needs to be added to further secure our buildings. Soon after classes resume in January the front doors of the buildings will be locked. To gain access to the building a visitor will need to push an entry button (similar to a door bell). Upon verification of the visitor’s identity and purpose access to the building will be allowed.
Also taking effect on January 1st, 2007 is a mandate (Public Act 94-994: Sex Offender Registration Notice) that school administrators are required to notify the families of school aged children that information about sex offenders living in the district is available to the public. The Illinois State Police website at www.isp.state.il.us/sor is a current and reliable source for this information. Any family needing assistance in accessing this site may call school, the East Dubuque Police Department, or the Sheriff’s office. You are always welcome and, in fact, encouraged to stop by the Police Department to review the East Dubuque sex offender registry.
On behalf of myself and all school administrators, I wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday.
Sincerely,
Katherine Kelly
Superintendent
East Dubuque School District # 119
